| We looked at the existing envelope of the covered market, which dates back to the nineteenth century, and treated it as the fragment of an urban museum. We cut through it, creating an optical slope in the style of Le Nôtre which culminates with a belvedere overlooking the harbor and the city. This caesura makes it possible to let natural light reach the core part of the project: a permanent exhibition on Dunkerque and its area, a school (INSET), a learning center, the department of urban planning and its services, and the archives.
