project | Art and History Museum of Rochefort – 2007
project owner | City of Rochefort
This project takes into consideration the deaf history of the site, both the idea of a silent façade which encloses a festival of architecture from the five continents from the house of Pierre Loti, and the ephemeral bar of Rochefort’s main square, made famous by Jacques Demy’s film (360° optical mesh). The preserved 18th-century façade converses with the new project in an interstice of sliding plates influenced by earthquake engineering. The museum spaces present total fluidity, with planks and floors in permanent floatation. The museology compliments this effect. The museum maintains a close relationship with the JM Djibaou museum in New Caledonia.
