project | CERD Natzweiler and Struthof Museum - 2007/08
project owner | French Ministry of Defense
This project concerns the renovation of the Struthof concentration camp, built by the Nazis in occupied Alsace, and of the surrounding terrain. The Centre Européen du Résistant Déporté (CERD, European Centre of Deported Resistance Members) sets upon subterranean tunnels dug by the deported prisoners. These tunnels serve as sediment, offering themselves both as canvas for landscaping as well as a permanent exhibition. This program, located at an altitude of 800 meters, includes an exhibition hall on the 14 Nazi extermination camps, a research center, a cafeteria, and both permanent and temporary exhibition space.
